William Carey University has received accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) for its business and management programs offered through the School of Business.

The Lucile Parker Gallery will host an exhibit of paintings by John Armistead Jan. 10 – Feb. 2. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The gallery is located at 512 Tuscan Avenue on the William Carey University campus. Hours are Tuesday-Thursday 1 to 4 p.m. or call (801) 755-4052 for an appointment.

William Carey University’s School of Education recently received accreditation for 2017-2023 based on the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) standards. NCATE’s performance-based accreditation system for teacher preparation ensures that teacher candidates are prepared to make a difference in P-12 student learning.

William Carey University senior Angelo Morales is the 2016 recipient of the Hub Award Leadership Scholarship. He was recognized during the 38th annual Hub Award dinner on Nov. 15 at Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg.
 
On receiving this recognition, Morales said, “It was an amazing experience to be recognized by Dr. King and the community this way. I was humbled to receive not only this recognition, but the financial scholarship associated with it.”

Registration is now open for the spring term of the Suzuki Institute at William Carey University. 
 
Openings for young violin, viola and cello students, ages 4-12. All levels are accepted. Lessons and classes start January 9. A 10% discount is available for second child enrolled in the program and for WCU employees' children. The deadline to register is Jan. 6.

William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine students demonstrated how telemedical kits delivered by disaster drones could be used to assist victims and rescue personnel during a simulated mass casualty event on Dec. 6 at John Bell Williams Airport in Bolton. The development of the disaster drones is a joint project with the unmanned aerial systems program at Hinds Community College.

Children who grow up overweight or obese risk developing secondary diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, heart/renal disease, and joint dysfunction. The William Carey University Tradition campus has partnered with Coastal Family Health Center and the National Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute to address the risk factors that lead to obesity and to encourage healthy eating and exercise habits for middle school students.

Carey students Nick Joslin and Asia Greer came home on a high note following the regional National Association of Teachers of Singing conference and competition held Nov. 10-12 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. More than 350 students representing colleges and universities from Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas competed in a number of categories. Joslin won fourth place in the sophomore men’s division and Greer won third place in the college musical theatre division.

William Carey University is expanding its dyslexia therapy program and will begin offering the Master of Education in dyslexia therapy on the Tradition campus in Biloxi.

Three William Carey University guitar majors placed in the annual Mississippi Guitar Festival held Nov. 11 and 12 at Belhaven University. Each year the festival offers competitions, lectures, master classes and concerts for the enrichment of enthusiasts, professionals and students of the classical guitar.

William Carey University will hold open tryouts for the women’s volleyball team on Friday, Dec. 9 in the brand new volleyball facility located on County Drive in Hattiesburg. Tryouts are open to high school seniors, sophomore junior college transfers, and current Carey students.
 
The schedule is as follows:
3:30 p.m. meet with admissions counselor
4:15 p.m. tour of campus
5:30 p.m. registration begins
6:30 – 9 p.m. tryouts
