Hattiesburg, Miss., March 1, 2013 - Dr. Paul Cotten, professor of psychology at William Carey University, presented a lecture titled, “Mental Health Services:  From Institutional to Deinstitutional” on Thursday, February 28 in the Lucile Parker Gallery at WCU. This lecture was one in the WCU’s University Lecture Series.

Hattiesburg, Miss., March 1, 2013 - The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) is participating in a new volunteer project: leading residents of the Wesley Manor Retirement Community of Hattiesburg in an exercise program. Twice a month, WCUCOM SOMA members lead residents through a 30-minute routine.

Dr. Janet Williams, Dean of the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing, announced the establishment of the Healthcare Education Simulation program on the Hattiesburg campus. The first class will be admitted for the Fall 2013 term.

Dr. Fred Luter, Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Convention, spoke at William Carey University’s chapel service in Smith Auditorium on February 27. A reception followed in the Lucile Parker Gallery. 

Rev. Luter spoke with passion about the importance of renewing one’s mind so that they can stand strong against temptations, make wise decisions, and always remember what Christ did for them on the cross.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 27, 2013 - Auditions for cast and interviews with crew for the 38th season of Carey Dinner Theatre (CDT) are Saturday, March 23 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University.
            CDT presents two musicals in June and July. Each member of the company, both performers and staff, is paid. The financial package includes salary, tips (company members serve during dinner), and housing.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 25, 2013 - The Department of Language and Literature at William Carey University hosted the annual Mississippi Philological Association (MPA) Conference on February 8-9.  This year’s conference featured critical, creative, and pedagogical papers from scholars across the South.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 25, 2013 - The William Carey University office of admissions will host Super Saturday for new students, both incoming freshmen and transfers, on March 2, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Students who have been approved for admission are invited to attend. Super Saturday gives students and their parents a glimpse into university life and offers information on admissions, financial aid, housing and student life.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 22, 2013 - Ashlee Arnau of Hattiesburg, a cheerleader and soccer player at William Carey University, nailed the half-court shot/ soccer style flip throw in at halftime of the WCU’s men’s basketball final home game against SSAC rival Auburn-Montgomery. Ashlee has been trying to sink the amazing half-court shot at every home game since Christmas, and she finally sank the shot during her last chance of the season.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 21, 2013 - William Carey University held a symposium for high school students interested in health care careers on February 20. Representatives from Jones County Junior College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Pearl River Community College, University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMC), The University of Southern Mississippi, WCU, and WCU College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) were present and led breakout sessions to present information about the programs they offer.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 19, 2013 - Carey students: Have you considered studying Spanish in Spain? William Carey University has a study-abroad program in Seville, Spain, with many options. The directors of the WCU study-abroad center, Dr. Doug Inglis and Donna Wright, will be on campus for a general meeting at 10 a.m. on February 21 in Tatum Court Room 301, and will be available for individual appointments afterwards. Parents are welcome as well.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 14, 2013 - William Carey University hosted the Fourth Annual High School Art Competition in the Lucile Parker Gallery on February 9. The exhibition gave area high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to showcase their talents and compete for scholarships. Forty-one students from the following high schools participated in the competition: Christian Home Educators of Hattiesburg, Northeast Jones High School, South Jones High School and West Jones High School. Tommie Rogers, registrar for the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, judged the competition.
