Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - The Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum of Art at William Carey University will host a reception to celebrate the opening of an exhibit featuring toys crafted by Harry Griffith of Columbia on Tuesday, December 4, from 5-6 p.m. The exhibit will be on display December 3-19.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - Dr. Jim Futral, executive director-treasurer of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, was the guest speaker for William Carey University’s chapel on November 28 in Smith Auditorium. The Carey Jazz Band, led by Wes Dykes, coordinator of instrumental music and assistant professor of music, and Jim Armstrong, assistant professor of music, performed prior to Dr. Futral’s message.
William Carey University will celebrate the Christmas season with an Old Fashioned Christmas Festival on Tuesday, December 11, from 5 - 8 p.m., outside of the Common Grounds Coffee House on the Hattiesburg Campus. The festival will feature pictures with Santa Clause, Christmas games and musical performances. The community is invited to enjoy food, fellowship, and music with activities for the entire family.
Event t-shirts will be available for $15 each at the festival.
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - Two William Carey University music students received high honors at the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference and Competition for the Southern Region held at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge November 8-10. Brandon Hayes, a senior from Collins, took first place in the Upper Musical Theatre Category and second place in the Graduate Men’s Category.
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 30, 2012 - Dr. Italo Subbarao, associate professor of medicine and associate dean of planning, assessment, and competency development at William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), was recently named to the editorial board for The Journal of American Osteopathic Association (JAOA). The JAOA is the official scientific publication of the American Osteopathic Association, as well as the scholarly, peer-reviewed publication of the osteopathic medical profession.
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 27, 2012 - William Carey University will host a reception to celebrate the opening of “A Juried Exhibition of Watercolors and Sculptures” by the South Mississippi Art Association (SMAA) on Thursday, November 29, from 5 - 6 p.m. in the Lucile Parker Gallery in the Thomas Fine Arts Center. Thirty-one watercolors and 10 sculptures are on display. The exhibit runs through December 14.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 19, 2012 - The William Carey University Winters School of Music presented “A Service of Thanksgiving” on November 15 at 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium. The service featured music by the Oratorio Choir, the Carey Chorale, the Symphonic Winds, and the orchestra. Hattiesburg, Miss., November 19, 2012 - William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) hosted a hospital fair November 15 in the Student Conference Center of Wilkes Hall. Thirty-six representatives from 18 hospitals met with first and second-year WCUCOM students to discuss future internship and job opportunities. The fair provided an opportunity for the medical students to learn more about the hospitals as they plan for their third year clinical rotations. All of the hospital representatives were from across the state of Mississippi except Christus St.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 2, 2012 - Janie Guice, executive director of Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP), spoke to William Carey University pre-med and medical students about the MRPSP on October 29 in WCU’s Green Science building. MRPSP is a program created by the Mississippi Legislature in 2007 that identifies and supports rural college students who aspire to return to their roots to practice medicine.
