Hattiesburg, Miss., October 17, 2013 - Carl L. Nicholson, Jr., CPA, president and CEO of Nicholson & Company, served as guest speaker for William Carey University’s Christian Leadership Lecture on October 16 in Smith Auditorium.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 16, 2013 - Jerry and Kelly Southern, workers in Thailand, spoke to Carey Scholars during their monthly Honors Colloquium at William Carey University on October 11. The couple is currently home on furlough, living in the missionary house at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Sumrall and working with their home church of Providence Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.
Jerry is originally from Purvis and Kelly is from Mt. Olive Their son Austin is a college freshman and their daughter Adriene attends Sumrall High School.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 15, 2013 - William Carey University’s Dr. Kelly Caffery, instructor of biology and psychology, will be holding an Enrichment Day at the Hattiesburg Zoo for her animal behavior class on October 19 at 11a.m. They will be making and presenting enrichment items to several different animals at the zoo including the jaguar, tiger, servals, lemurs, and other primates.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 15, 2013 - William Carey University graduate (’71) Dr. G. Douglas Inglis, director and research professor at The Texas Tech University Center in Seville, Spain, will teach the course HIS 490/590: History of the Southern Frontier at WCU’s Hattiesburg campus during J-Term January 6-10, 2014. The class, which counts for undergraduate or graduate credit, will be from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with an hour lunch break from 12 – 1 p.m. The cost is $340 per hour for the three-hour credit course.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 15, 2013 - William Carey University held its fifth annual International Food Fair on October 10 in the Student Conference Center. Booths were set up representing different countries, and each booth offered samples of food from that country. The booths were adorned in colorful decorations and flags from each country hung from the ceiling.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 10, 2013 - Dr. Myron Noonkester, dean of the Noonkester School of Arts and Letters, has recently been named as the 2013 Mississippi Humanities Teacher of the Year for William Carey University. Dr. Noonkester was selected by the Mississippi Humanities Council, who chooses one faculty member at each higher learning institution in the state.

Jody Babineaux of Lake Charles, La., a student in William Carey University’s Master of Art in Secondary Education program and a seventh grade math and social studies teacher at Power Academy in Laurel (an alternative school), was recently selected to be a member of the National Troops to Teachers (TTT) program. Troops to Teachers is a Department of Defense Program managed by the Defense of Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support in Pensacola, Fla.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 9, 2013 - In recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month, William Carey University’s Department of Education recognized their inaugural Dyslexia Therapy graduate cohort with a Red Coat Ceremony on October 5. The graduate students, who began courses in the summer, are entering the dyslexia therapy internship phase of the Master’s Degree program.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 8, 2013 - William Carey University’s Winters School of Music presented “Opera Lite,” directed by Kimberle Moon and accompanied by Timothy Dail, on October 3 and 4 in Smith Auditorium. The October 3 performance was a matinee attended by local elementary, middle and high schools. The October 4 performance was an evening production open to the public.

She will also speak at the BSU’s Mission Banquet on October 10 at 4:30 p.m.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 3, 2013 - William Carey University hosted a Molecular Biology Training Workshop for area high school teachers on September 21 in Green Science Hall on the Hattiesburg campus. This free workshop, which used resources from the Princeton University Satellite Learning Center, was made possible through the generous support of the Princeton University Department of Molecular Biology and organized by Dr. Tyler Hodges, assistant professor of biological sciences at WCU.
Hattiesburg, Miss., October 2, 2013 - The William Carey University Theatre will present “Hamlet,” the classic Shakespearean tragedy, October 10 - 12 and 17 - 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Joe and Virginia Tatum Theatre in Hattiesburg. “Hamlet” was adapted for a contemporary audience by Tim Matheny, chair of Carey’s department of theatre and communication.
