Hattiesburg, Miss., April 19, 2013 - On Thursday, April 25, a three-judge panel of the Mississippi Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments at 11 am in Smith Auditorium at William Carey University.

The Appeals Court schedules oral arguments on college campuses and at other locations as a teaching tool for students. It is known as the “Court on the Road” program.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 18, 2013 - The William Carey University Alumni Association recently inducted five outstanding graduates into its Hall of Fame. The alumni were R.T. Buckley (‘61), Ramona Fant (‘60), Kourtney Hollingsworth (‘08), Martha Hutson (‘70), and Ric Shrubb (‘94).

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 18, 2013 - On Tuesday, April 16, (center) Mayor Johnny DuPree signed a proclamation during the city council meeting declaring April 14-20 to be National Osteopathic Medicine Week and urging all citizens and community organizations to support this observance by helping to educate residents about DOs and osteopathic medicine. Hattiesburg, Miss., April 17, 2013 - William Carey University recently inducted 31 into the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business, Management, and Administration. The purpose of Sigma Beta Delta is to promote higher scholarship in business education and to recognize and reward scholastic achievement in business subjects. Students must rank in the upper 20 percent of their class to be considered for invitation to the society.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 16, 2013 - William Carey University will host the Bivocational and Small Church Leadership Network (BSCLN) National Celebration April 18-20. The conference, titled “Networking with the Iron Men,” will include numerous meetings, lectures, music led by WCU’s School of Music, breakout sessions, a banquet, and other social events.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 15, 2013 - The William Carey University Library will hold a book sale April 17–19 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in front of the library. A large assortment of books including fiction and nonfiction,  texts on nursing, business, music, history, literature, and reference works on a variety of subjects will be available.. Hattiesburg, Miss., April 15, 2013 - Dr. Francis Achike, professor of pharmacology and clinical skills in the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), will present a lecture titled, “Advancing Safe Drug Use Through Interprofessional Education” on April 17 at 3 p.m. in the Lucile Parker Gallery. This lecture is a part of WCU’s University Lecture Series.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 15, 2013 - William Carey University recently held a  reception honoring retiring faculty and staff. The reception was held in the president’s meeting room on April 10 and was attended by Carey faculty, staff, students, alumni, and family and friends of the retirees. Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, presented each honoree with an inscribed clock as a token of appreciation for their years of loyal and dedicated service to the university.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 12, 2013 - Dr. James M. Turner, dean of the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), was the recipient of the Alton B. Cobb Outstanding Master of Public Health Award at the University of Southern Mississippi’s annual College of Health Awards Night at the Thad Cochran Center on April 2. Dr. Michael Forster, dean of the College of Health at USM, and Dr. Ray Newman, chair of the Department of Community Health Sciences at USM, presented the award to Dr. Turner, who is currently a student in the Master of Health program.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 10, 2013 - Twenty-one students from the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), along with Dr. Beth Longenecker, assistant professor of medicine and associate dean of clinical science, participated in DO Day on Capitol Hill, which was held in conjunction with the SOMA Spring Convention in Washington, D.C. March 13 - 17.

Hattiesburg, Miss., April 9, 2013 - William Carey University senior chemistry major Tyree Ratcliff of Hattiesburg has been selected to participate in the 2013 Vanderbilt Summer Undergraduate Research in Chemical Biology program in Nashville, Tenn., May 27 - August 2. Ratcliff was one of the 10 chosen out of 500 applicants for the program. The ten-week, hands-on course is designed to introduce chemistry, biochemistry and biology students to the research processes and the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary research.
