Hattiesburg, Miss., June 19, 2013 -

William Carey University has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Robert M. Hearin Foundation in support of the Ph.D. in Nursing Education and Administration program, which was implemented in the Fall of 2012. The Ph.D. program was designed to prepare professional nurse scholars to assume leadership and upper-level management roles in nursing education programs or health care organizations.

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 14, 2013 - The 2013 Bobby Halford Baseball Day Camp was held this week, June 10-14, at William Carey University’s Kennedy Sports Complex, allowing young players, ages 7-12, to improve their skills and learn new techniques. The camp was being instructed by WCU Head Baseball Coach Bobby Halford along with Ben Smith, assistant coach, and Matt Carter, graduate assistant.

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 14, 2013 - The 2013 William Carey University Softball Day Camp was held this week, June 11-13, at Carey’s Kennedy Sports Complex, allowing girls of all ages to learn new techniques and practice their game. The camp was instructed by WCU Head Softball Coach Wendy Hogue along with Assistant Coach Craig Fletcher and a group of current and former Carey softball players.

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 7, 2013 - William Carey University officials held groundbreaking ceremonies for Phase IV of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) complex and the Carey Chapel on Thursday, June 6. Phase IV of the WCUCOM will be the 7379-square-foot Anatomy Building, which will cost $1,324,500 and will provide medical students with increased space for laboratory work.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 30, 2013 - William Carey University’s School of Education will offer a Master of Education in Dyslexia Therapy degree beginning in Summer 2013. The inaugural cohort for this dyslexia therapy training program consists of 24 students who will begin the program with orientation on Saturday, June 1, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Kresge Room of Thomas Business Building. Speakers at the orientation will be State Rep.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 29, 2013 - Students from William Carey University were formally inducted into the Mississippi Delta chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society on May 1 in the Lucile Parker Gallery on WCU’s Hattiesburg campus.  Established on Carey’s campus in 1970, Kappa Mu Epsilon is a specialized honor society founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 28, 2013 - Steve Knight, athletics director and head men’s basketball coach at William Carey University, was named the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Athletic Director of the Year at the annual SSAC awards banquet on May 20. The SSAC is the largest conference in NAIA and includes schools stretching from South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 23, 2013 - Albert Galeas, a 2012 graduate of William Carey University and current Spanish teacher at N.R. Burger Middle School, was recently named District New Teacher of the Year for the Hattiesburg Public School District. Galeas, who teaches 7th and 8th grade students, began teaching at N.R. Burger in August. The award was presented by Hattiesburg Public School District Superintendent James Q. Bacchus during a ceremony at Hattiesburg High School of May 1.

This is a Master of Education degree designed to meet the career aspirations of individuals desiring to pursue careers as athletic directors or in the business side of private sector sports organizations.

Hattiesburg, Miss., May 15, 2013 - Chad Newell, president of the Area Development Partnership, will speak at William Carey University’s graduate commencement ceremony on Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. Nearly 800 students will graduate from WCU in four ceremonies.
