Hattiesburg, Miss., February 4, 2014 - William Carey University will feature the Old Timers Basketball Game as the half-time show for the Crusaders men’s basketball game against Blue Mountain College at 4 p.m. on February 8. The Old Timers team is made up of members of a local “senior lunch bunch” who meet twice weekly to play. Hattiesburg, Miss., February 3, 2014 - William Carey University announces that general registration for the Spring Trimester for continuing students has been extended through Wednesday, February 5. Students can register from 8 – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 – 5 p.m. Spring trimester classes begin on February 24 and end May 9.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 24, 2014 - Dr. Ben Burnett has been named the Dean of the William Carey University School of Education. Dr. Burnett has served as superintendent of the Lamar County School District since 2008, and has 28 years of experience in the public schools of Mississippi with 26 of those years with Lamar County Schools. He was formerly director of bands and then principal of Oak Grove Middle School. He has also served as an adjunct professor for graduate courses at both Carey and The University of Southern Mississippi.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 24, 2014 - The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) hosted COM Hospital Day on January 16 in the WCUCOM Academic and Asbury Administrative Center lobbies on the Hattiesburg campus. Representatives from 16 hospitals attended this event as well as students from the WCUCOM class of 2016. This event provided an opportunity for students to visit booths and discuss options regarding internships, placement for rotations, and future residencies.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 21, 2014 - Dr. Mike Reed, assistant professor of educational leadership at William Carey University, was recently appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant to serve as Mississippi’s Commissioner of the Interstate Compact for Educational Opportunity for Military Children. The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children was developed by the Council of State Governments, the Department of Defense, as well as education and military family experts.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 17, 2014 - The Lucile Parker Art Gallery at William Carey University hosted a reception to celebrate the opening of “An Exhibit of Illustrations and Graphic Design” by Dr. Ed Ford on January 16. Dr. Ford is the director of the Lucile Parker Gallery and assistant professor of graphic design at WCU. The gallery, now located at 512 Tuscan Avenue at Cherry Street, is open Tuesday – Thursday, from 1- 4 p.m. or by appointment 801-755-4052. The exhibit opened on January 15 and will hang through February 12.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 17, 2014 - William Carey University’s Mississippi Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society hosted its Carey Collegium VII featuring a lecture by Ellen Ruffin, associate professor and curator of the de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection at The University of Southern Mississippi, on January 16. Hattiesburg, Miss., January 16, 2014 - Lt. Jody Babineaux of Ellisville, a student in William Carey University’s Master of Art in Secondary Education program and a seventh grade math and social studies teacher at Power Academy in Laurel (an alternative school), was recently awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Educator of the Year award. The award was given by the Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Committee of the Pine Belt, an organization that honors the civil rights leader during the month of January through a series of events celebrating King’s life and dream.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 10, 2014 - William Carey University’s School of Education offers a Master of Education degree in Dyslexia Therapy. WCU is currently taking applications for the 2014 cohort of students, Cohort II, which will be limited to 25 students. The new class will begin instruction in July, and there are state scholarships available for this program.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 10 - Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 Small Business Leadership Award, given annually by the Area Development Partnership (ADP) and William Carey University (WCU).

The award recognizes the important contributions small businesses make to the economic, social and cultural life of the community and the particular achievements of one individual or family. The award was established in 1990 and is given in memory of Dr. Joe Roberts, a former professor of communications at WCU and one of the founders of Aycock-Roberts Furniture.

Hattiesburg, Miss., January 8, 2014 - Five William Carey University art students were recently juried into the 2014 Mississippi Collegiate Art Exhibition. Out of 767 entries from 11 schools, Juror Kathryn Jill Johnson chose 124 pieces for inclusion in the show, which is a collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures.
