Hattiesburg, Miss., March 5, 2014 - William Carey University’s School of Education will host the ninth annual Young Authors Celebration (YAC) on Friday, March 7, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. There will be over 400 students from eight area elementary schools at the event, along with their teachers and parents.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 26, 2014 - Dr. Everett Roark, director of the Master of Biomedical Science Program and assistant professor of genetics and microbiology at the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), served as a speaker at the Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association (MOMA) Winter Meeting held February 22-23 at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. Dr. Roark presented a lecture titled, “Overview of Medical Genetics in Primary Care,” which will count toward Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians in attendance.
Hattiesburg, Miss., February 26, 2014 - William Carey University hosted a workshop titled, “Preaching Through Hebrews: An Expository Sermon Preparation Seminar” on February 24 in Thomas Business Building. Nearly 30 preachers from North Mississippi to the Gulf Coast were in attendance. Keynote speakers were Dr. Brett Golson, coordinator of bi-vocational programs and assistant professor of religion at WCU; Kevin Jackson, pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Grenada; Dr. Chas Rowland, pastor of Bovina Baptist Church, and Wade Stevens, pastor of First Baptist Church of Mathiston.

Hattiesburg, Miss., February 13, 2014 - The Pascagoula River Audubon Center will hold a clinic at William Carey University on Saturday, February 15, In Green Science Hall Room 105 at 10 a.m. Dr. Thomas Rauch, Chair, Department of Biological Sciences, will host the group as a presentation is given about the Great Backyard Bird Count and other Audubon Society projects. Basic bird feeding concepts to help attract more birds to backyards will be presented also.

Phil Bryant to serve as a member of the Healthcare Solutions Institute’s Board of Directors. The Mississippi Healthcare Solutions Institute, which was formed in 2013, serves as a public-private partnership to champion healthcare growth and development.
Hattiesburg, Miss., February 12, 2014 - The Department of Language and Literature at William Carey University has received national recognition for its programs in English and English education from the National Council for Accreditation in Teacher Education (NCATE) and the National Council Teachers of English (NCTE). The programs will be listed as nationally recognized through a 10-year accreditation cycle from February 1, 2014 to August 1, 2024, and will be included on the NCATE/NCTE website as nationally recognized programs.
Hattiesburg, Miss., February 10, 2014 - Jaime M. Hill, director of postdoctoral development for the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM), was elected to the Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) Executive Committee during the OMPW’s December advisory board meeting. Hill, who began working at the WCUCOM in 2010, was appointed by Dean of the WCUCOM Dr. Jim Turner to serve as the dean’s designee to the OMPW in July 2013. She has served in her current role at the WCUCOM since March 2013.
Hattiesburg, Miss., February 10, 2014 - William Carey University announces that general registration for the Spring Trimester for new students begins on Friday, February 21, from 8 – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 – 5 p.m., and ends on February 24. Spring trimester classes begin on February 24 and end May 9.
Hattiesburg, Miss., February 7, 2014 - William Carey University chemistry students have been invited to present a poster on their abstract, “A Comparison of the Bradford Assay with the Bicinchoninic Acid Assay for Measuring Protein in Soil Extracts,” at the Mississippi Academy of Science 78th Annual Meeting that will be held at the Hattiesburg Lake Terrace Convention Center March 6-7. Dr. Michael McNatt, assistant professor of chemistry and physics, direct the student chemical research.

This innovative program is designed for the working professional and is completed over a 15-month period in a cohort format with extensive project and fieldwork experience.
Hattiesburg, Miss., February 5, 2013 - Sarah Beth Sewell, a sophomore vocal performance major from Starkville, was crowned Miss William Carey University 2014 at the Miss WCU Scholarship Pageant on February 4. She was also the preliminary talent winner.
