Hattiesburg, Miss., July 15, 2013 - William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) student Chelsea Rick was crowned Miss Mississippi in Vicksburg on July 13. Rick, a native of Fulton, is a second-year medical student who plans to specialize in internal medicine.

Kansas City, Mo. July 15, 2013 - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 898 programs have been named 2012-13 NAIA Scholar-Teams. William Carey University was well represented with six programs selected as a NAIA Scholar Team.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all varsity student-athletes listed on the Official NAIA Eligibility Certificate.

For early registration, students will need to make an appointment by contacting Admissions. General registration for new students begins on Wednesday, August 21, and will go through late registration, which ends on August 26. Fall trimester classes begin on August 26 and end October 30.

Hattiesburg, Miss., July 8, 2013 - William Carey University hosted the four-day Mississippi Baptist All-State Youth Choir and Orchestra (MBASYC&O) camp June 10 – 13, as well as the Mississippi Baptist Convention HeartSong Camp June 25-28. Both were held on the Hattiesburg campus.

Hattiesburg, Miss., July 2, 2013 - Dr. Suzanne Carreker, a certified academic language therapist and a master instructor at Neuhaus Education Center (NEH) in Houston, Texas, spoke to students in William Carey University’s Master of Education in Dyslexia Therapy program on June 28 in Fairchild Hall. Dr. Carreker wrote Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills, which is the primary curriculum used by the WCU students in the dyslexia program. The program is brand new, and the inaugural cohort of 24 students just finished their first two classes, taught by Dr.

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 24, 2013 - Paul Harbin, former coach for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers women’s soccer team, led a women’s residential soccer camp for girls ages 13-18 at William Carey University June 18-21. Harbin, along with a staff of soccer coaches, worked with approximately 145 girls throughout the week, challenging them to improve their skills and build confidence in themselves and their abilities.

William Carey University has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Robert M. Hearin Foundation in support of the Ph.D. in Nursing Education and Administration program, which was implemented in the Fall of 2012. The Ph.D. program was designed to prepare professional nurse scholars to assume leadership and upper-level management roles in nursing education programs or health care organizations.

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 14, 2013 - The 2013 Bobby Halford Baseball Day Camp was held this week, June 10-14, at William Carey University’s Kennedy Sports Complex, allowing young players, ages 7-12, to improve their skills and learn new techniques. The camp was being instructed by WCU Head Baseball Coach Bobby Halford along with Ben Smith, assistant coach, and Matt Carter, graduate assistant.

Hattiesburg, Miss., June 14, 2013 - The 2013 William Carey University Softball Day Camp was held this week, June 11-13, at Carey’s Kennedy Sports Complex, allowing girls of all ages to learn new techniques and practice their game. The camp was instructed by WCU Head Softball Coach Wendy Hogue along with Assistant Coach Craig Fletcher and a group of current and former Carey softball players.

Phase IV of the WCUCOM will be the 7379-square-foot Anatomy Building, which will cost $1,324,500 and will provide medical students with increased space for laboratory work.
