Hattiesburg, Miss., December 5, 2013 - Dr. Read Diket, professor of art and education/director of Center for Creative Scholars at William Carey University, along with her daughter, Tally Scully, and Tally's niece, Callie LaValle, recently published their first book, "Houdini and the Magic Molt." Scully and LaValle wrote the educational children's story, and Dr. Diket created the illustrations. Dr. Diket will hold a book signing for the new publication on WCU's campus December 11 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in front of Wilkes Hall.

Hattiesburg, Miss., December 3, 2013 - William Carey University will host a Christmas dinner for residential students in Wilkes Dining Hall followed by the annual Christmas Vespers and Hanging of the Green service in Smith Auditorium in the Thomas Fine Arts Center on December 5. Following Vespers, WCU will also hold an Old -Fashioned Christmas Festival in the area between Bass Hall and Ross Hall.
Hattiesburg, Miss., December 2, 2013 - William Carey University Theatre will present the Christmas classic “It’s a Wonderful Life” The Radio Play December 12 through 14 at 7 p.m. in the Joe & Virginia Tatum Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus.
Written by Joe Landry, “It’s a Wonderful Life” The Radio Play, celebrates the season with one of America’s favorite Christmas stories presented with live foley sound effects. Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects added to enhance the quality of audio for film, television, and radio.
Hattiesburg, Miss., December 2, 2013 - William Carey University graduate (’71) Dr. G. Douglas Inglis, director and research professor at The Texas Tech University Center in Seville, Spain, will teach the course HIS 490/590: History of the Southern Frontier at WCU’s Hattiesburg campus during J-Term January 6-10, 2014. The class, which counts for undergraduate or graduate credit, will be from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with an hour lunch break from 12 – 1 p.m. The cost is $340 per hour for the three-hour credit course.
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 25, 2013 - Inspirational speaker and author David Vince of “When Life Throws You Curves, Keep Swinging,” a double-amputee who coached baseball in the college and high school ranks over three decades, will be speaking at William Carey University’s chapel service at 9:25 a.m. on December 4 as part of WCU’s Christian Leadership Lecture series. Vince will also hold a book signing in front of Wilkes Hall from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on December 4, and serve as keynote speaker for the Sports Banquet which will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 21, 2013 - Three William Carey University students were formally inducted into the WCU Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society on November 15 on WCU’s Hattiesburg campus. Established in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing, Sigma Tau Delta invites members to join based on academic excellence.
Hattiesburg, Miss., November 21, 2013 - Dr. Billy Brown, professor of business and associate dean of business programs at William Carey University’s Tradition campus, presented a lecture titled, “Chasing the Rainbow in Search of Business Success” on November 19 in the Kresge Room of Thomas Business Building on WCU’s Hattiesburg campus. Dr. Brown is also a recruiter for the Tradition campus’ MBA program.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 18, 2013 - Retired William Carey University professor Dr. Walter Butler has just completed his newest book, “The Journey of Mankind – The Eschatology of Man from His Creation to His Eternal Destiny,” and WCU will hold a book signing for Dr. Butler on November 19 at 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the WCU Bookstore. Hattiesburg, Miss., November 15, 2013 - The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) hosted its first Residency Fair on November 9 at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center in downtown Hattiesburg. Representatives from 23 residency programs attended this event as well as students from all four WCUCOM classes. This event provided an opportunity for students to visit booths and discuss postgraduate options regarding internship and residencies.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 15, 2013 - Richard “Dick” Vogel of Hattiesburg has been recently named associate vice president for athletic and university advancement at William Carey University.
Vogel formerly served as associate director of athletics at The University of Southern Mississippi. Over the tenure of the 17 years he worked for USM, he also served as associate athletic director and executive director of the Eagle Club. Prior to working at USM, Vogel worked as a quality engineer at Sunbeam Corporation in Hattiesburg.
