Hattiesburg, Miss., October 22, 2012 - William Carey University recently signed agreements facilitating an educational and cultural exchange relationship with two Baptist K-12schools in Antofagasta, Chile. The three institutions explored exchange opportunities and ways to develop mutually beneficial academic programs such as the English Language Center at WCU.  Dr.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 22, 2012 - William Carey University officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new women’s residence hall on the Hattiesburg campus on October 17. The residence hall, which will be located directly behind Byrd Hall on the south end of campus, will accommodate 96 women residents double occupancy or in 49 private rooms to relieve the school’s housing crunch. The dorm is scheduled to be completed before the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year.

Hattiesburg, Miss, October 19, 2012 - Iris Easterling, retired assistant professor of language and literature and curator of the Sarah Gillespie Art Museum at William Carey University, was recently recognized as assistant professor of English emerita at WCU. Dr. Garry Breland, vice president for academic affairs, presented Easterling with a framed certificate declaring her title during WCU’s chapel on October 3.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 19, 20120 - Rene Yaitul, chaplain at Antofagasta Baptist College and pastor of Amisadai Baptist Church in Antofagasta Chile, served as guest speaker for William Carey University’s chapel service on October 10. Dr. Tim Glaze, director Baptist Student Union (BSU) and assistant professor of religion at WCU, translated for Yaitul. Accompanying Yaitul was Christian Godoy, an English teacher at Eben Ezer High School in Antofagasta who served as a translator.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 19, 2012 - William Carey University held its fourth annual International Food Fair on  October 11 in the Student Conference Center.  Booths were set up representing different countries, and each booth offered samples of food from that country. The booths were adorned in colorful decorations and flags from each country hung from the ceiling.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 15, 2012 - William Carey University’s athletic department recognized a group of military soldiers following the playing of the national anthem at WCU’s 7 p.m. men’s soccer game against Spring Hill College on October 3. WCU’s new marching band, the Spirit of Carey, performed the national anthem and played a medley of patriotic songs to honor the soldiers during their recognition.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 9, 2012 - The Lucile Parker Gallery at William Carey University will display “From Eden to Eternity: Interpretations of Bible Stories in Reversed Embroidery from the Molas Collection of Sandra and Bob Bowden,” a collection of folk art in fiber from the San Blas Islands, Oct. 2-26.

A reception for the exhibit will be held Oct. 11 from 5 until 6 p.m. at the gallery. Dr. Garry Breland, vice president for academic affairs, will present a brief gallery talk at 5:30 p.m.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 9, 2012 - Pictured are some of William Carey University’s international students at the International Student Welcome Party held on October 2 in the Student Conference Center. The event offered students a chance to enjoy food, games, door prizes, and fellowship, as well as musical entertainment by a student band. There are currently 111 international students – 68 males and 43 females - from 38 different countries. Of those 111, 76 are returning students.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 5, 2012 - Dr. Anne Brooks, physician and one of the founders of the Tutwiler Clinic and chair of the medicine department at North West Mississippi Regional Medical Center, was the guest speaker for William Carey University’s Christian Leadership Lecture on October 3, in Smith Auditorium. A question and answer session was held following the lecture in the Lucile Parker Gallery for pre-medical students and other interested persons.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 3, 2012 - William Carey University hosted the 79th annual Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities (MAC) Conference October 1-2. Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, is current president of MAC, and Dr. Clyde Muse, president of Hinds Community College, is the incoming MAC president. The theme was “Leadership to Lift Mississippi.”

Hattiesburg, Miss., September 28, 2012 - Three sisters with roots in Mississippi but parents in Oklahoma have returned to the Magnolia State to attend William Carey University.

The LeBoeuf sisters, including fraternal twins Allie and Sarah, 19, and Madeline, 17, were born and raised in Mississippi but relocated several times to follow their father’s career. Their father, Jeffrey, served as executive director of the Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association during the formation of WCU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and was instrumental in the formation of the medical college.
