Hattiesburg, Miss., November 19, 2012 - The William Carey University Winters School of Music presented “A Service of Thanksgiving” on November 15 at 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium. The service featured music by the Oratorio Choir, the Carey Chorale, the Symphonic Winds, and the orchestra. The Oratorio Choir consists of Katelyn Farris of Petal as soprano, Brandy Cramer of Gulfport as alto, Austin Williams of Carriere as tenor and Carolos Casilla of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, as bass. Hattiesburg, Miss., November 19, 2012 - William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM) hosted a hospital fair November 15 in the Student Conference Center of Wilkes Hall. Thirty-six representatives from 18 hospitals met with first and second-year WCUCOM students to discuss future internship and job opportunities. The fair  provided an opportunity for the medical students to learn more about the hospitals as they plan for their third year clinical rotations. All of the hospital representatives were from across the state of Mississippi except Christus St.

Hattiesburg, Miss., November 2, 2012 - Janie Guice, executive director of Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP), spoke to William Carey University pre-med and medical students about the MRPSP on October 29 in WCU’s Green Science building. MRPSP is a program created by the Mississippi Legislature in 2007 that identifies and supports rural college students who aspire to return to their roots to practice medicine.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 31, 2012 - Sharon Schamber-Jones, instructor of business at William Carey University, recently had her first book, entitled Gordon’s Creek Anthologies: A Compilation of Short Stories, Poetry, and Photos, published by Gordon’s Creek Press, Inc.  Schamber-Jones and her late husband, Bert Schamber, started Gordon’s Creek Press, Inc., in the early 1990’s and developed the idea of Gordon’s Creek Yacht Club, including the logo, which is a forum for Hattiesburg natives to share their stories.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 22, 2012 - William Carey University officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new women’s residence hall on the Hattiesburg campus on October 17. The residence hall, which will be located directly behind Byrd Hall on the south end of campus, will accommodate 96 women residents double occupancy or in 49 private rooms to relieve the school’s housing crunch. The dorm is scheduled to be completed before the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year.

Hattiesburg, Miss, October 19, 2012 - Iris Easterling, retired assistant professor of language and literature and curator of the Sarah Gillespie Art Museum at William Carey University, was recently recognized as assistant professor of English emerita at WCU. Dr. Garry Breland, vice president for academic affairs, presented Easterling with a framed certificate declaring her title during WCU’s chapel on October 3.

Hattiesburg, Miss., October 19, 20120 - Rene Yaitul, chaplain at Antofagasta Baptist College and pastor of Amisadai Baptist Church in Antofagasta Chile, served as guest speaker for William Carey University’s chapel service on October 10. Dr. Tim Glaze, director Baptist Student Union (BSU) and assistant professor of religion at WCU, translated for Yaitul. Accompanying Yaitul was Christian Godoy, an English teacher at Eben Ezer High School in Antofagasta who served as a translator.
