Watercolors Exhibit to Open at William Carey University September 2
Hattiesburg, MS, August 27, 2010 - The Lucile Parker Art Gallery at William Carey University will feature “A Juried Exhibition of Watercolors” by the South Mississippi Art Association (SMAA) September 2-16. The opening reception will be in the gallery on Thursday, September 2, from 5-6 p.m.
The exhibit features over 30 watercolor pieces. Exhibiting artists include JoAnn C Adams, Georgia Cater, Elisa Collins, Delbert Dearman, Millie DeMent, Jeanette Graham, Paula Green, B.G. Hardin, Sheri Hoem, Greg Kelly, Andrea Koystol, Neuza Langhans, Laura B. Lewis, Ginny Parker, Dana Stratton, Sharon Vardnado, Bobby Walters, Sory Yager. The paintings displayed at the exhibit will be available for purchase.
The SMAA is an organization composed of Hattiesburg area artists who are interested in gathering to further develop their talents and fuel their passion for art. The members share their artwork with the community through a variety of venues in order to increase awareness of the benefits of art.
“We have a great organization that contributes a tremendous amount of artwork to various fundraisers in the community,” said Bobby Walters, president of SMAA and a contributing artist to the exhibit. “We love what we do and it is joy for us to share our love of art with others, and especially at William Carey.”
The paintings displayed at the “Watercolors” exhibit will be available for purchase.
“I am looking forward to this exhibition,” said Chatham Meade, curator of Lucile Parker Gallery. “It is great to show off the work of local talents and is always a joy to see what SMAA members bring to our community. This group exhibition is a fun event to have on our Hattiesburg campus.”
The public is invited to the reception and exhibit admission is free. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. and by appointment. The gallery will be closed on September 6 for a university holiday. For more information about the exhibit call 601-318-6528.
