William Carey University Hosts Professors from Linyi Normal University in China for Fall Trimester

Hattiesburg, MS, August 24, 2010 - Professors from Linyi Normal University in Linyi, China in the Shandong province will be teaching two unique classes during the fall trimester at William Carey University as part of an academic exchange program between the two universities. A Linyi librarian is also on the Carey campus.

Walter Yong-You Wang, associate professor, Chairman of the Trade Union of the Foreign Language School and Dean of International Language Training Center at Linyi, will teach Contemporary Chinese Culture and Language. Jack Jingdong He, professor and dean of the sports art department in the School of Sports at Linyi, will teach Martial Arts. Xingyu Xu, the librarian and vice curator at Linyi, will study the American library systems.

Professor Wang is a published scholar who taught English at Linyi Middle School for 20 years and was honored as a National Key English Teacher. He earned a bachelor in English education degree from Qufu Normal University and a master’s degree in management in education from Shandong Normal University.

Professor He is a Chinese Martial Arts Master and a National First Class Wushu Referee who has published books as well as articles in refereed journals. He holds the bachelor’s degree in physical education from Qufu Normal University and a master’s in Chinese martial arts and gymnastics at the Shanghai Sports Institute. He will teach Martial Arts at the Hattiesburg YMCA in addition to the classes he will teach at WCU.

Xu is a scholar who has won research awards and has published a number of books and articles in refereed journals. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Qufu Normal University and a master’s in Science and Technology Information from Science and Technology Information Research Institute.

 “Linyi Normal University is one of the oldest four-year institutions in Shandong province,” said Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU. “With an enrollment of more than 30, 000 students, having these professors take time to visit our campus is a unique opportunity from which our students will benefit greatly. Carey is a global university that offers students international opportunities in the areas of academics and service.”

William Carey entered into an exchange agreement in the fall of 2009. Three Linyi professors taught at WCU during the 2010 spring trimester.
