Survival Weekend Planned at William Carey University

Hattiesburg, MS, July 1, 2010 - The Baptist Student Union of William Carey University will host the annual Survival Weekend for freshmen and transfer students August 20 through 22 on the Hattiesburg campus.

The theme for Survival Weekend is “Merge.” Leah Urruchi, assistant director of the BSU, said, “Students have to juggle academics, relationships, jobs, and their spiritual lives, all of which demand attention. Maintaining focus to complete school is hard enough without all the other stuff that will be thrown into the mix. Survival Weekend gives students the insight they need to ‘merge’ all of these things together so that God can be the central focus.”

Registration is Friday, Aug. 20 at 4:30 p.m. in the Student Conference Center of Wilkes Hall. A meet and greet begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The informational sessions begin at 7 p.m. followed by late night entertainment at 9 p.m.

Breakfast is Saturday, Aug. 21 at 8:15 a.m. followed by a community service project from 8:45 a.m. until noon. Lunch is at noon with informational sessions throughout the afternoon. Dinner is at 5 p.m., followed by additional sessions and late night entertainment at 9 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 22 students are invited to attend various local churches for worship. Students living in the dorms will be allowed to move in Friday, Aug. 20 beginning at 1 p.m.

Registration for Survival Weekend is $35 and includes a t-shirt, activities and meals. For information call 601-318-6161 or visit www.careybsu.org.

“We’ll discuss topics such as money, work, relationships and how God is in all of these areas,” said Urruchi. “Survival Weekend is a great way to meet new people, learn about WCU, the BSU and other organizations on campus.”
