Chinese Professors to Teach at William Carey University in Exchange Program
Hattiesburg, MS, March 4, 2010 - Three professors from Linyi Normal University in Linyi, China in the Shandong province are teaching three unique classes during the Spring trimester at William Carey University as part of an academic exchange program between the two universities.
Dexin Gao, professor and dean of the college of foreign language at Linyi, will teach Contemporary Chinese Culture and Language. Yanqun Wang, associate professor and vice dean of the college of physical education, will teach Martial Arts. Xilong Liu, associate professor in the college of foreign language, will teach Chinese Calligraphy.
Recognized by the Chinese government for his work in higher education, Gao has published three books on the English language. Among his classes at Linyi, he teaches Western Culture, English Speaking, and British Literature.
Wang has both doctoral and master degrees in Chinese traditional sports and teaches Chinese Wushu and Traditional Sports at Linyi. In 2007 he taught Chinese Health Qigong in Germany and Holland.
A member of the Linyi fine arts department since 2002, Liu has exhibited work in the Calligraphy Exhibition of Famous Calligraphy Cities at the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution in Beijing in 2009.
“Linyi Normal University is one of the oldest four-year institutions in Shandong province,” said Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU. “With a present enrollment of more than 30,000 students, having these professors take time to visit our campus is a unique opportunity from which our students will benefit greatly. Carey is a global university that offers students international opportunities in the areas of academics and service.”
Dr. Martha Morris and Dr. Mary Beth Breland of the WCU faculty will travel to Linyi to teach Conversational English and Culture from March 12 through July 10. Chinese exchange students will begin classes at Carey in August.
Carey faculty and staff welcomed the professors with a reception held in their honor March 2 following their first day of class on March 1.
