WCU to Present Quilter's Exhibition
HATTIESBURG, Miss., Mar 20, 2008 - William Carey University will present the Pine Belt Quilters Juried Exhibition March 27 through April 29 in the Lucile Parker Art Gallery on the Hattiesburg campus. Eleven members of Pine Belt Quilters will have works on display.
Representing the variety of techniques used by the members will be works by Doris Dunn, Pat Faulkender, Martha Ginn, Gloria Green, Ellen Hall, Leslie Kiger, Ollie Jean Lane, Ella Lucas, Mary Nell Magee, Barbara Parker, and Betty Tudor. Among the quilts in the exhibit will be Baltimore Album, traditional pieced, traditional and innovative applique, pictorial landscape, foundation-pieced pineapple, and contemporary fiber art.
The Pine Belt Quilters were organized in 1984 with 25 members who gathered to encourage and promote the art of quilting, preserve quilts, and provide opportunities to exhibit quilt and related needlework. There are now more than 150 members who help preserve the American artistic and cultural heritage of quilting.
An opening reception honoring the artists will be held Thursday, March 27 from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend this event admission free.
