Dr. Melony Hanson is a resident of Hattiesburg, MS. Born and raised in Moss Point, she is a proud graduate of MPHS Class of 1981. Dr. Hanson holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in education, and a PhD in curriculum and instruction. She earned all three degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her areas of research interest include: Common Core State Standards, Curriculum Development & Design, and Science Integration in the Curriculum.
Dr. Hanson’s passion is education and ensuring a secure future for the children of Mississippi. She is an advocate for the Common Core State Standards and is committed to educating parents and teachers on what the Common Core State Standards are and how these standards can help Mississippi students become well-rounded, critical thinking problem solvers; keeping in mind that the students are the future of this great state.
In her spare time Dr. Hanson spends time with her husband Rod doing wood work, painting, and enjoying their pets, and she currently serves on the House Corporation Alumnae Advisory Board for the Delta Pi chapter of Delta Gamma at The University of Southern Mississippi.
