Dr. Barksdale received his B.A. in Political Science from Louisiana State University-Shreveport. He completed M.S. in Political Science emphasizing Public Administration with a graduate minor in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1978. He worked for several years in the government sector involved with projects ranging from community infrastructure development, disaster management, international trade development for Mississippi exports and the development of rural health initiatives, garnering several awards for these efforts. Dr. Barksdale earned his D.O. degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986 and completed both his internship and residency at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital in Ohio. For the next 25 years, he practiced Emergency Medicine on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in addition to working part time in Family Practice, Occupational Medicine and Urgent Care. He was one of the original members of the Mississippi Coastal Trauma Care Regional Committee and has a special interests in trauma systems and disaster planning. After leaving clinical practice, he was engaged by a large national medical management company as their Associate Medical Director. Dr. Barksdale is board certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine and OMT.
