Suttee, 1826

This is one of the most famous images of a suttee, and it appeared in James Peggs's 1828 essay The Suttees’ Cry to Britain.  Peggs was a Christian missionary to Orissa.

Rev. James Peggs was a Christian missionary to Orissa, and he inscribed this presentation copy of his Suttees' Cry to Britain (1828) to Rev. Daniel Corrie.  Corrie was an East India Chaplain to India, 1816, and first Anglican bishop of Madras through the Church Missionary Society.
