John Wesley and Methodist Centenary Medal, 1839

This 48.5mm white metal medal by C. F. Carter celebrates the life of John Wesley and the Centennial of the Methodist Missionary movement.

The obverse side has a profile image of Wesley and reads "John Wesley, M.A. Born June [28th]1703.  Died March 2nd 1791."

The reverse side reads "Centenary of Wesleyan Methodism, 1839"

    An image of the the "Centenary Hall and Mission House London" appears.

    Below the image and inscription, the medal includes Wesley's watchword, "The World is My Parish."

Church Missionary Society Jubilee Medal, 1848

This 58mm bronze medal by William Wyon celebrates the jubilee of the Church Missionary Society, founded in 1799 by the Church of England.

The obverse side has an image of St. Paul and reads "Church Missionary Society Founded A.D. 1799."

The reverse side includes special circular images of places where the CMS took the Christian message. 

    Included are: "West Africa 1804" "South India 1814" "Mediterranean 1815" "New Zealand 1816" "North India 1816" "Ceylon 1818" "Western India 1820" "N.W. America 1822" "West Indies 1827" "East Africa 1843" "China 1844" "Abbeokouta 1845"

    In the center of the reverse side, the text reads "Jubilee Commemorated 1848" and the interior center reads "All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God"
