William Carey Welcomes Serampore Relation

SERAMPORE RELATION

On Wednesday, August 9, 2006, Michael Lalmuanpuia, a native of Mizoram, India, arrived in Mississippi in order to begin his higher education study at William Carey.  Michael, the son of Dr. Lalchungnunga, Principal of Serampore College, and his wife Hliri, is studying business at William Carey.  With Michael's arrival, a new relation between Serampore College and William Carey University has begun, and in addition, the Carey Center is happy that Michael is serving as an intern in the Center's museum and research collection housed in Donnell Hall.  While Michael's arrival signals a new relation between Serampore College and William Carey University, this new relation is one of many legacies from William Carey's work in India.

Below is an article that appeared in the Hattiesburg American on Monday, August 14, 2006.  The article highlights Michael's arrival and the renaming of the institution as part of the Centennial Celebration.

CENTENNIAL THANKSGIVING SERVICE

As part of the Centennial Celebration at the institution, a special Thanksgiving Service was held on January 21, 2006.  During the celebration, "A Centennial Celebration Doxology" by Dr. Gene Winters, Professor of Music, was featured that focuses on the institution as an outgrowth of William Carey's vision and work in India.  Of special importance is the second stanza which states, "Son triumphant, Lord and Savior, You will always be the Model who we emulate, the Humble Servant free.  Like our namesake, William Carey, We'll expect great things from You And attempt, through love and witness Always to be true."
