CAREY ADVANCES TO REGION XIII FINALS

Hattiesburg, MS- #12 William Carey University women’s soccer team advanced to the Region XIII championship game by knocking off GCAC foe LSU-Shreveport 4-0 in semifinal play.

Carey jumped out to a 1-0 halftime lead as Shayna Turner scored in the 26^th minute of play.

Carey turned what had been a close game at half into a route in the second half. Carey out shot the Lady Pilots 14 to 2 in the half and tallied three goals as GCAC Player of the Year Shannon Steffan scored twice and Norma Velasquez scored the other second half goal.

With the win Carey moves into the Region XIII championship game and will take on #1 Lee University.

The Lady Flames knocked off Berry College in the other semifinal game, 4-1.

Lee University is 19-1 on the season and has held the top spot in the NAIA polls since September 26^th.

At stake for the Lady Crusaders is a berth in the NAIA women’s soccer national tournament.
