#14 CAREY VICTORIOUS ON SENIOR DAY

Hattiesburg, MS-          #14 William Carey University women’s soccer team picked up its 16th win of the season with a 4-3 victory over LSU-Shreveport in GCAC play.

Carey opened the scoring with a sensational goal in the 9th minute of play from Linda Garcia.

Carey continued to press their advantage early but slowly the Lady Pilots turned things around on the Lady Crusaders and in the 30th minute broke through.

Calandre Singh split the Carey defense and beat the keeper with a shot to the left post to tie things up 1-1.

In the second half Carey began to exert itself on the offensive end but Lady Pilot keeper Kelsi McNew kept things tied with three key saves.

However, the offensive onslaught for the Lady Crusaders finally broke through as Carey scored three goals in a five minute span.

The first goal came in the 63rd minute from Natalia Nino, the second goal was a minute later as Shannon Steffen got in on the action and finally in the 68th minute Garcia netted her second goal of the afternoon to give the Lady Crusaders a 4-1 lead.

But the Lady Pilots refused to go quietly. Michelle Williamson trimmed the Carey lead to 4-2 with her goal in the 78th minute and in the 82nd Rachel Alexander cut the lead to 4-3 with a goal of her own.

LSUS had an excellent chance to tie things up in the 85th minute of play but Brenna Bussart shot from the left side of the box was deflected by Carey defenders Norma Velasquez and Whitney Stewart. The ensuing corner kick was cleared by the Carey defense and threat was over.

Prior to kick-off Carey honored its three seniors; Erin Holder from Hattiesburg, MS, Norma Velasquez from Dallas, TX, and Danielle Princiotta from Ocean Springs, MS.

With the win Carey improves to 16-0-1 on the season and 7-0-1 in GCAC play.
