#16 CAREY WOMEN MOVE INTO FIRST
Shreveport, LA- #16 William Carey University women’s soccer team moved into first place in the GCAC with a 2-1 victory over LSU-Shreveport Friday afternoon at LSUS.
Carey and LSUS began Friday’s game in a tie for first in GCAC play.
Both teams battled to a scoreless tie at intermission with the Lady Pilots dominating much of the play. LSUS out shot the Lady Crusader 12-2 in the opening half.
In the second half the Lady Crusaders found their way. Carey blasted 14 shots in the half and limited the visitors to only one shot. Jessica Stuart notched her first goal of the season in the 60th minute of play to give Carey a 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Crusaders continued their offensive attack and struck pay dirt again in the 78th with a goal from Jeana Erickson.
The lone shot in the second half for the Lady Pilots ended the Carey scoreless streak as Racheal Alexender scored with a minute to play. The Carey defense had worked 5 straight shutouts and gone a total of 565 minutes with allowing a goal.
