Rams Get the Win
9.26.06 The Carey women traveled to Mobile, AL to battle the nationally ranked Mobile Rams on Tuesday but only came away with their third loss of the season. Carey started the game much like every game on the attack and created many chances early on. After applying a lot of pressure on the Rams and not converting their chances, Kelly Baltieri scored a great goal to give Mobile a 1-0 lead at halftime. Mobile came out at halftime a much determined team and scored early and never let up until the end of the match. Carey’s lone goal came from a free kick scored by Jeana Erickson (Fr). Coach Danny Owens was pleased with his team’s performance. “We wanted to come in here and try to put Mobile under pressure from the start. I felt we had some chances early and just couldn’t finish. When you play a team like Mobile, you only get a few chances and it is imperative to finish them. The girls worked hard and showed good things at times.” Carey hosts LSU-Shreveport on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

Carey Falls Just Short Against D-1 Opponents
9.23.06 The women’s soccer team fell just short Saturday night as they dropped to 6-2 (1-0) on the season against D-1 Mississippi Valley State University. The Lady Sader’s took an early 2-0 lead with goals from freshman Jeana Erickson and Aimi Beresford (Fr). Mississippi Valley added a goal of their own to make it 2-1 at the half through Katie Johnston. It was Johnston again who scored the second goal early in the 2nd half to even the score. Both teams played very conservatively not wanting to give anything away as the score remained two’s until Jency Jose (MVSU) scored the game winner in the 88th minute to give the Devilettes the win. “We had our chances to win the game. We have to learn to finish our chances when we get them, especially in the tighter matches against a good opponent. We had very good looks at the goal tonight but could not convert. Overall our defense played well, we just have to learn to hold the ball better and keep on the attack. Our lack of possession kept us under pressure a lot of the game, said Coach Owens.

Jeana Erickson to
take an early lead. Jackson State tied the game mid way through the 1st

shots on each others goal, JSU came up with the game winner with about 1
minute left in double overtime to give JSU the win. “We definitely had
our chances to win the game today. It was a very physical match and I was
proud of our team to fight for almost 45 minutes with 10 men. We need to
learn from our mistakes and get better from this game,” said Coach Owens.

Jeana Erickson (Fr.) finished the game with a late goal to complete a 3-1 victory. “Overall I was pleased with the team’s performance over the last two days.
