CAREY WOMEN PLACES SIX ON ALL-GCAC SOCCER TEAMS

 

Hattiesburg, MS- Six members of the William Carey University women’s soccer team have been selected to the 2007 All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference team as voted on by league coaches.

 

For the 14th ranked Lady Crusader’ garnered all Players of the Year honors.

 

Carey placed goalkeeper Valerie Split-Log, forward Shannon Steffen, Midfielders Aimi Beresford and Danielle Princiotta, and defenders Norma Velasquez and Whitney Stewart were selected to the All-GCAC women’s team.

 

Shannon Steffen was selected as GCAC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year while Norma Velasquez was selected as Defensive Player of the Year.

 

Head Coach Danny Owens was selected as Coach of the Year after leading his Lady Crusaders to 16-0-1 record and 7-0-1 mark in GCAC play.

 

“It’s always nice to have players recognized for the efforts throughout the season.  These girls have worked hard this season and it is an honor for them to be selected by the other coaches in the conference for their contributions to the team and its success.  Shannon and Norma both have earned their Player of the Year award.  They have been committed to getting better over the years and the recognition is a testament to their dedication,” said Lady Crusader head coach Danny Owens.
