Two Selected for Honorable Mention as All-Americans

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its selections for the 2007 NAIA Women's Soccer All-American teams, as selected by the NAIA Women's Soccer All-American Selection Committee. Defender Whitney Stewart (JR.) (left) and Midfielder Aimi Beresford (SO.) (right) were given Honorable Mentions.

Whitney Stewart (Pascagoula, MS) anchored a Carey defense that allowed just 16 goals in 21 games and recorded 13 shut outs. Stewart was selected to the All-Region team two years in a row and this is her first Honorable Mention for All-American status. “Whitney is an excellent player and teammate.  She is a great leader and the girls listen to what she has to say.  As hard as Whitney trains and competes in games, she always does it with a smile. I have felt that Whitney was always an All-American caliber player since her freshman year and I am happy that she was recognized for her ability”, says Coach Owens.

Aimi Beresford (Normanton, England) has been the pulse of Carey’s team playing in the center of the field all year. Beresford totaled 26 points as she recorded 9 goals and 8 assists.  “Aimi is a phenomenal player with great vision and strength.  Aimi’s fitness was a lot better this year and I think she became accustomed to what we were trying to do here.  When we would start our attack, it seemed that everything would begin through Aimi.  Aimi will only continue to get better and this will have a huge impact on our team’s success in the years to come,” says Coach Owens.
