4.22.08 Owens Announces 2008 Women’s Soccer Schedule

Hattiesburg, MS- The 2008 William Carey Women’s Soccer schedule has been announced by Head Coach Danny Owens Tuesday afternoon.

“I am very excited about our 2008 schedule this year.  We have a great non-conference schedule which I hope will prepare us for our conference games.  The winner of the conference will get an automatic bid to Nationals, so we need to be at our best come conference play.  We will get two NCAA D-I Exhibition games to help prepare us for the season.  We also play 3 top 25 teams before our first conference game.  Our conference gets tougher every year and I hope we will be ready to go once conference games begin,” said Coach Owens.

The Lady Sader’s will be on the road for the first 4 games traveling to National Tournament host Embry Riddle and D-II Rollins College, National semi-finalist Lee University, and will meet up with Vangaurd out of California at the University of Mobile.   .

Carey will host Tennessee Wesleyan before traveling to Mobile on the following weekend to face Auburn Montgomery and Reinhardt in a GCAC vs. SSAC contest.  This will be the final test before Carey begins their conference play hosting Spring Hill on September 30.

Beginning the month of October, Carey has a three game stretch at home first with conference foe, LSU-S (GCAC).   The last two out of conference opponents Thomas University and Trevecca Nazerene will travel in to face the men and women’s teams with back to back games.

The Lady Sader’s will be on the road again for 3 games against Belhaven (GCAC), the University of Mobile (GCAC) and a return trip to LSU-S (GCAC).

Carey will finish out the regular season with home matches against Belhaven (GCAC) and the University of Mobile (GCAC) with a road trip to Spring Hill (GCAC) in between.

The GCAC Tournament will begin on November 14 and 15 and will be determined by the regular season conference winner.  The winner of the Conference Tournament will receive and automatic bid to the National Tournament scheduled on November 22 for the 1st opening round games.

The Lady Sader’s were GCAC regular season and conference tournament champions last year.  Carey advanced to the NAIA Region XIII Tournament last season and fell to #1 Lee University in the Regional Championship game 2-0.  The team posted a 19-1-1 record overall going undefeated in the regular season.  The Lady Sader’s will return 9 starters from last year’s team.
