9.12.07 Luckless Crusaders Trounced

The Senators from Auburn University Montgomery (AL) took it to the beaten-up Crusaders (2-4) handing out a 6-1 thumping. Sveinn Jonnson scored a hat-trick for the #8 ranked team in the nation moving to 3-0 on the season. Alan Naigeon scored Carey's lone reply. Crusader's head coach Nigel Boulton said "I was relieved to hear the final whistle and so were the players. We will work hard to put things back together, that is all we can do". The Crusaders have been suffering through a catastrophic list of injuries and suspension. Top scorer Jared Wooley missed the game with a hamstring pull, striker Scott Beatty was suspended and 2006 assist leader Carl Hollowed is out for the season following knee surgery. The Crusaders also lost Mitchell Barker to a knee injury in the first half of the game. Junior transfer Charles Hines played almost his first full game before coming off near the end but is far from fully fit. "We have players who have been injured and unavailable and eight freshmen took part in the AUM defeat. We have not had a good start to the season but it is a long way from over yet," added Boulton "We need to get healthy, get fit, find a settled squad of players and move on."
