9.26.07 Tough Loss Good Performance

The Crusaders may have slipped to 3-8 on the season with the loss to Mobile Tuesday night (25th) but if the evidence of that performance is anything to go by they will soon be racking up the wins again. The University of Mobile Rams came into Crusader Field following wins over nationally ranked AUM and University of the Cumberlands to put themselves back in the national rankings. The Crusaders paid them little respect in the opening minutes when both Jr. Jared Wooley and Sr. Sean McNally went close to scoring forcing good saves out of the visiting keeper. In an even first half Fr. defenders Orane Swaby and Rob Rogers bossed the middle with So. Elliott Lewis working tirelessly in midfield with partners Fr. Joe McNiell and Jr. Chris Schaefer. Two minutes from the half-time break a lapse in concentration and a lucky ricochet allowed Ruben Diaz to get free and he drove home at the near post past So. goalkeeper Sean Mapsen.

In the second half Carey continued to match their opponents and had a couple of opportunities from corner-kicks that the visitors scrambled away but in the 83rd minute Mobile sealed the win when the Crusaders failed to clear a Rams corner-kick, St. Hilaire prodding the ball home. Two minutes from time Carey's Jr. forward, Charles Hinds, was red carded and Mobile finished the game off with a third that did not reflect the tightness of the game where the shots on target count was even at four apiece.
