12.22.07  Carey Sign Two Standouts

The Crusaders recently formalized scholarship offers to two standout players. Drew Garner a forward from Gulfport High School and Allen Ramsey a former Biloxi H.S. defender now living in Arizona. Both have inked with Carey and are the first of the '08 class.

Coach Nigel Boulton said of Garner, "Drew is a super athlete and goalscorer. He is a big time player and I am delighted he has chosen to come here to Hattiesburg and to become a Crusader". Boulton was no less complimentary of Ramsey saying, "Allen moved away from the coast for his senior year due to his father's job change. We knew all about him from his playing time with Biloxi and from our contacts on the coast. Once we were alerted that he was interested in returning to Mississippi to go to school and Carey was a possibility we acted swiftly to get him on board. He is a very good player and will certainly help strengthen our team".

Former Gulfport soccer coach and current Gulfport Athletics Coordinator Howard McNeil said, "I am very happy to see William Carey give Coast kids the opportunity to play college soccer, I would like to see more schools in the area give our homegrown players a chance". Garner and Ramsey will follow '06 recruit Josh Burnsed, a sophomore from Gautier and Ryan Wheelock an 07 junior transfer from Gulf Coast Community College onto the team.
