Faculty Physician
Qualifications
The position requires the applicant be:
- A graduate of a college or school of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission of Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA)
- Residency trained;
- Certification by the American Osteopathic Association in Family Medicine and OMT is preferred;
- Experienced in family medicine, general practice, general medicine, general surgery, general internal medicine, or equivalent training;
- Experience in academic is preferred such as:
- Teaching experience in graduate medical education (osteopathic GME preferred);
- Teaching experience at a college of osteopathic medicine preferred (teaching experience at a college of medicine will be considered);
- Equivalent experience will be considered;
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Chair, Department of Family Medicine teaches in Physical Diagnosis, Osteopathic Principles and Practice, Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics. He or she will also participate in research and administrative functions as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Family Physician (FP):
- Assists the University in implementing the Mission Statement;
- Teaches assigned courses in laboratories;
- Assists the department chair in monitoring the progress of all students on assuring progress toward graduation and recommends disciplinary action when necessary;
- Assists in the preparation of materials and documentation required for accreditation;
- Mentors students to promote their growth and development;
- Serves on WCUCOM committees as assigned;
- Assists in the selection of students to attend WCUCOM;
- Serves as a physician ambassador to the local and national academic communities;
- Assist in coordinating and facilitating the integration of FP topics into the lectures and provides lectures to students on clinical rotations and for OPTI presentations;
- Supervises students in the seeing of patients within the teaching clinic setting(s)
- Other duties as assigned by the by the Chairs, Family Practice and Osteopathic Principles and Practice, and the Associate Dean Clinical Sciences
- Opportunities for clinical practice in partnership with area clinics
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Must have a demonstrated ability to complete multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment;
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, be organized and detail orientated.
