Full Time Simulator Physician

The College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, is recruiting a FT Simulator Physician. The successful candidate must have earned a D. O. degree from an AACOM approved College of Osteopathic Medicine & have an interest in working with students in the OSCE Lab & work with simulators such as METI-MAN. The position is available July 1st & will remain as such until recruitment is complete. 

Qualifications

The position requires the applicant be:

  • A graduate of a college or school of osteopathic medicine approved by the Association of American Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM);
  • Residency trained;
  • Board-certified by the American Osteopathic Association;
  • Experienced in family medicine, general practice, or equivalent training;
  • Experience in academic is preferred such as:
    • Teaching experience in graduate medical education (osteopathic GME preferred);
    • Teaching experience at a college of osteopathic medicine preferred (teaching experience at a college of medicine will be considered);
    • Equivalent experience will be considered.

 JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Chair, Department of Family Medicine develops simulator curriculum and teaches in the simulator laboratory. He or she will also have teaching responsibilities in Physical Diagnosis, Osteopathic Principles and Practice, Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics. He or she will also participate in research and administrative functions as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Simulator Physician (SP):

  • Assists the University in implementing the Mission Statement;
  • Is the physician primarily responsible for the simulator lab and instruction;
  • Directs the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in the OMS – 2 year;
  • Teaches assigned courses in laboratories;
  • Assists the department chair in monitoring the progress of all students on assuring progress toward graduation and recommends disciplinary action when necessary;
  • Assists in the preparation of materials and documentation required for accreditation;
  • Mentors students to promote their growth and development;
  • Serves on WCU-COM committees as assigned;
  • Assists in the selection of students to attend WCU-COM;
  • Serves as a physician ambassador to the local and national academic communities;
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating the integration of simulator and simulation topics into the lectures and provides lectures to students on clinical rotations and for OPTI presentations;
  • Other duties as assigned by the by the Chair, Family Practice and the Associate Dean Clinical Sciences.

 SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to complete multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, be organized and detail orientated.
