Faculty Position
Reference and Instruction Librarian
The Reference and Instruction Librarian will assist in the development of effective information literacy instruction, applying sound techniques and the latest technology to assist students and faculty in learning to use library resources. This librarian will also assist in providing reference services, both in-person and by electronic means, to students and faculty in coordination with the Public Services Librarian. He or she will teach 20-25 sessions per trimester to undergraduates, graduate students and faculty, providing an effective orientation to the library's electronic resources and the main library facility. This librarian will also assist in the development of online tutorials, electronically recorded presentations, and other effective means to provide instruction to distance students and students and faculty on two other campuses. This position will also serve as the library liaison to the new School of Osteopathic Medicine which is scheduled to admit the first class of medical students in August, 2010. Some night and weekend work may be required.
MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills including effective presentation skills; evidence of teaching abilities; knowledge of print and electronic information sources, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; evidence of strong computer skills including the ability to master new software products. Final three candidates will be asked to provide a 20 minute instructional demonstration for the search committee
Preferred but not required: Reference experience; academic library experience; experience in selecting and developing electronic resources; experience with creating and maintaining Web-based applications; experience with Dreamweaver or other software designed to create web pages.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Start date is August 15, 2008
