Francis I. Achike, MD, PhD, FCP
Professor of Pharmacology & Clinical Skills

Dr Francis Achike earned his MD degree from the University of Ife, Nigeria in 1979, and his residency training in Anesthesiology (1983) and PhD in Pharmacology (1991), respectively, from the University of Benin (Nigeria) and University of Hong Kong. He served as lecturer in Anesthesiology and Pharmacology at the University of Nigeria (1991- 1994), Senior Research Associate at the University of Hong Kong (1994- 1996), Lecturer in Pharmacology at the University of Malaya (1996-2000) and as Associate Professor (and Head of Clinical Skills Section: 2001- 2003) and later Professor in the International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2000 - 2011).

Dr Achike has deep interest in innovative medical education and curriculum development.  He has obtained a Master degree in Education Management from the University Malaya and is a member of the Education Committee (and fellow) of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology.  He is also committee member of the Education Section of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacologists (IUPHAR).

His research interest is cardiovascular Pharmacology with bias for diabetes, hypertension and the metabolic syndrome.  His work is published in international journals and he currently sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology (JCVP), the Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology (CEPP), and the Journal of Medical Education (Taiwan).
