List of Requirements for Freshmen Students

William Carey University is authorized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to enroll non-immigrant alien students. International freshmen students who wish to be admitted to William Carey University must meet all requirements listed below.

  1. Application for undergraduate admission - Application for admission can be either completed or downloaded from the Carey website. Applications may also be requested by mail through the Office of International Admissions on the Hattiesburg campus.
  2. US$30.00, non-refundable, application fee - This one-time fee, which allows for your application to be processed, should be mailed via U.S. check or U.S. money order to the Office of International Admissions at 498 Tuscan Avenue, WCU Box 13, Hattiesburg, MS, 39401.
  3. Official high school transcript(s) - Academic record(s) indicating high school completion/graduation must be provided. Be advised that transcript(s) from foreign institution(s) must be submitted to one of two foreign credential evaluation agencies before being officially accepted by William Carey University:
    1. World Education Services (http://www.wes.org/)
    2. AACRAO Foreign Credential Services (www.aacrao.org/credentials)
  4. Official ACT or SAT scores - A minimum American College Test (ACT) score of 20 (Composite) or a minimum Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of 950 (Critical Reading + Math) is required.
  5. Official TOEFL or Michigan Level Examination scores - A minimum score of 523 is required on the paper-based TOEFL; a minimum score of 193 on the computer based TOEFL; or a minimum score of 70 on the internet-based TOEFL. Students who wish to take the Michigan Level Examination must meet the minimum requirement of a Proficiency Level II. Note that such requirement must only be met if you come from a nation where English is not considered the official or second language. 
  6. Certification of finances - Proof of financial support for the duration of your stay in the United States is required. This document can be downloaded from the Carey website and must be submitted accompanied by an official bank letter, not bank statement, acknowledging the yearly amount, in U.S. funds, available to be used towards your studies at WCU. 
  7. Proof of Immunizations - William Carey University requires one immunization for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) in the past ten years or two such immunizations in a lifetime.

 Additional Information

Currently, the yearly cost of attending William Carey University is about US$18,000. Students who receive scholarships are responsible for the balance of their cost of attendance once his/her designated scholarship amount is posted. Students must be prepared to pay their cost of attendance in full on registration day prior to their starting trimester.

If the international student resides on campus, housing will be provided during scheduled breaks throughout the academic year, with the exception of Christmas break. Campus housing will close December 18 for Christmas break and reopen January 2. International students should make plans to return home or seek alternate housing for that time period. There are four one-week breaks during the academic year. Meals will be provided to international students during those breaks for an additional charge.
