Graduate Nursing Program

Director’s Message

“Expect Great Things from God; Attempt Great Things for God”

Thank you for your interest in the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing at William Carey University.  The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program was developed on the faculty’s belief that graduate education advances professional nursing practice and health care delivery by building on the existing foundation of baccalaureate nursing education.  The mission of the School of Nursing is to prepare professional nurses for entry-level positions in either academic or healthcare institutional settings.

The degree is offered on both the Gulfport and Hattiesburg Campuses beginning Fall 2008.  The Fall Admission is on the Hattiesburg campus with a Spring Admission on the Gulfport Campus. Hattiesburg classes will be held in the new master’s wing to the Fail Asbury Building. Gulfport classes will be held at the temporary site on Beach Boulevard until the new Tradition campus is opened in Fall 2009.

William Carey University offers a MSN program that fits the lifestyle of busy nurses.  Graduate study may be done on either a full-time or part-time basis.  A schedule can be tailored to meet both the curriculum and the student’s needs. The minimum course load for full-time status as a graduate student is six semester hours during a trimester. A student must complete all required work within a period of six years after enrolling in the graduate program.

The Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing also offers a post-master’s graduate program option in nursing education for the MSN prepared nurse who wishes to pursue further education in the role of the nurse in an academic setting. This program will prepare the nurse to sit for the Certified Nurse Educator Exam upon meeting the educational practice requirement.

Those of us in the Master’s Program look forward to helping you meet your educational needs.  Let us know how we can help you.
