BIO 4300 - Field Biology

Course Description

The Department of Biological Sciences offers Field Biology (BIO 4300) every year in the May Term (mid to late May). Field Biology is a four hour (senior level) course that is entirely field based. Students meet at William Carey campus and travel to Leroy Percy State Park near Hollandale, MS, and stay in the group cabin for the first week. The second week of the course is spent at cabins at Tishomingo State Park near Tishomingo, MS. Each day students and faculty visit sites in and near the state parks. Plant and animal species are identified, recorded, and the biology and habitat of the organisms are reviewed. Each student works at keying out organisms and compiling a list of all species. Students must apply for permission of the instructor before registering for this course. Applications for the course should be turned in to Dr. Thomas Rauch in Room 114, Green Science Hall.
