Department of Mathematics

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Department of Mathematics is to provide instruction in a Christian environment that enables all students to develop an insight into the nature of mathematics as well the analytical skills to deal effectively with quantitative information.

Courses are offered in the areas of algebra, analysis, probability, and geometry and give mathematics majors exposure to the principal areas of their discipline as well as provide other students with the mathematics needed in their disciplines.

Students are encouraged to connect their knowledge with the world around them an to reflect on applications and the effect of those applications on our world.

Careers in Mathematics

A graduate with a degree in mathematics is prepared for a variety of careers in business, industry, government, and education. Students with degrees in mathematics are needed especially in areas that deal with communications, computers, finance, and statistical research. Students with an interest in teaching will typically certify to teach at the secondary level or prepare to pursue an advanced degree after graduation.
