Biology Major
All Biology majors must fulfill the core curriculum requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. A minor is required; although students may choose any minor they wish, minors in Chemistry or Mathematics are strongly recommended.
- In addition to the B.S. core curriculum requirements, all Biology majors must complete the Biological Sciences core curriculum, which consists of the following:
- 15 hours of Biology coursework to include Principles of Biological Science I, II, and III (or their equivalents), as well as Biology Capstone
- 15 hours of Chemistry coursework to include Inorganic Chemistry I and II, Introduction to Organic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry I
- 6 hours of Math coursework to include College Algebra or any higher course
- Introduction to Psychological Statistics
Specialized tracks within the Biology major are available in the following areas:
- Pre-professional studies (this includes pre-medicine, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, pre-physical therapy, pre-occupational therapy, pre-pharmacy, and graduate studies)
- Microbiology (this track allows students to have a “mini-concentration” with 20 hours or more of microbiology coursework)
- Environmental biology
- Teacher licensure (secondary education)
