Mississippi Professional Educators' Teacher Scholarship

A scholarship in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded after January 31 of each year.

Guidelines and application forms will be sent to each institution in Mississippi having an accredited teacher education program.  The individual institutions may consider, as may applicants as they wish, however, they may submit only one application to MPE each year.  Letters of recommendation from faculty memebrs must be sent to MPE Scholarship Committee along with the application, transcript, and a photograph of the applicant.

Each college or university will determine its own selection process. MPE criteria for the recipients are as follows:

  1. Student presently in his/her junior year, in any area of certification, preparing for student teaching during either semester of his/her senior year in the 2004-2005 academic year.
  2. Recommendations by a faculty committee as a very promising prospective teacher.
  3. Full time student (taking at least 12 hours).
  4. Recipient will be expected to attend the MPE annual convention (room for Friday night and travel expenses will be paid by MPE).  The scholarship of $500.00 will be awarded during the convention.  The 2005 MPE Convention will be held on Friday, April 8th and Saturday, April 9th.  MPE student membership is required in order to apply.

The applications must be received in the MPE office on or before February 28.  The Scholarship Committee will select the recipient(s) as soon as possible after that date.

In addition to the $500.00 scholarship, the recipient(s) will receive a student membership with insurance for his/her senior year and a regular membership for the first year of teaching in Mississippi.
