Art at William Carey University

The Department of Art at William Carey University has a long history of providing encouragement and training for artists. The Mission of the Department of Art is to provide our students with an opportunity to practice, understand, and gain a high level of technical skill with several art media; to offer future teachers of art a thorough foundation and broad experience in several areas; and to prepare majors for graduate work and/or a career. We offer major concentrations in painting, graphic design, or a combined studio in a small classroom setting where your instructors know you and your goals.
The Hattiesburg campus offers a major and minor in art with programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.) with an emphasis in painting and drawing. Students are situated in an art community fostered by exhibitions in the Lucile Parker Gallery of Art and the Sarah Gillespie Museum of Art on the Hattiesburg campus.

The Gulf Coast campus offers a major and minor in art with programs leading to the Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree (B.F.A.) in studio arts or the Bachelors of Arts degree (B.A.) in art education. Our facilities include studios for painting, drawing, and printmaking. In addition, there are twenty Macintosh G5 computers, digitizing tablets, scanners, and a digital photography area in our digital art lab.

All of our art courses are taught by professional, working artists who understand what it takes to live a creative life. Our graduates are working in areas all across the country. As a Baptist supported school, we also operate within the framework of Christian morals and values.
